ROADMAP OF THE MINISTRY OF BASIC EDUCATION

2017

The main duty of the Ministry of Basic Education (MINEDUB) is to guarantee quality, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable education to all. This entails encouraging access and the completion of the primary cycle among school-aged children, and fighting against illiteracy.

As part of the implementation of its roadmap for the year 2017, MINEDUB will continue to broaden access and improve the quality of education, strengthen pedagogic supervision as well as enhance governance and institutional support, in compliance with the Training and Education Sector Strategy.

To this effect, this roadmap includes fourteen (14) priority actions that will be carried out within the framework of the implementation of the four (4) following programs:

· Democratization of Primary

· Development of Preschool Education;

· Literacy Education

· Governance and Institutional Support

Ø As concerns the Democratization of the Primary Cycle, nine (09) priority actions have been identified, namely:

1. Recruiting 2.970 holders of the Teachers Grade One Certificate for in 2017;

2. Acquiring and distributing 650 000 mathematics textbooks and readers free of charge to CE1/Class 3 pupils;

3. Acquiring 60 000 Civics textbooks and putting the at the disposal of school libraries;

4. Developing new curricula for formal preschool and the primary cycle (Phase 3/5);

5. Broadening access to education through the creation of 45 schools in refugee camps in the Adamawa, East and Far-North regions;

6. Strengthening pedagogic supervision by posting 243 teachers in refugee camps in the Adamawa, East and Far-North regions;

7. Lending support to private education agencies through the granting of the subvention to schools;

8. Building a picture of inclusive education;

9. Training 300 CE1 and CE2/Class 3 and Class 4 teachers from 68 schools testing the inclusive education approach.

Ø Preschool Development: it will include one (01) action, namely: disseminating the Community-Based-Preschool Educational Policy.

Ø Literacy Education: it will include one (01) action, namely: developing a procedures handbook for the Literacy Education Program.

Ø For Governance and Institutional Support, the following three (03) actions were scheduled.

1. Fighting against clandestine private schools;

2. Continuing the fight against corruption within the school milieu by scaling up Rapid Results Initiatives (RRIs)

3. Drafting the 2016-2017 school map of the Ministry of Basic Education.

The matrix below indicates, for each program, actions that were retained, coefficients, the performance indicator and expected results as on 31 July and 31 December 2017.
