The Minister of Basic Education, Professor Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, received in his office on Thursday, March 20, 2024, the new representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Cameroon, Ms. Yvette Muhimpundu. He was accompanied by Dr. Oyono Adams Daniel, Secretary General of MINEDUB, and several directors of the Ministry of Basic Education. This initial visit also provided an opportunity to explore the prospect of signing a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Basic Education. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Cameroon wishes to further strengthen collaboration with Cameroon in order to make its impact more visible. She also requested the provision of statistics on refugees in Cameroon. This data will allow the UNHCR to conduct advocacy to mobilize the necessary funds. Professor Laurent Serge Ngoa, for his part, reassured his host of the government’s willingness to continue working with the UNHCR, before praising the actions of various partners, such as Education Cannot Wait, NRC, for their work in favor of refugees. According to the Minister of Basic Education, the aim is to strengthen this multidirectional cooperation that has existed for years. With this in mind, Professor Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa promised to propose a date for the signing of the said agreement as early as next week.
