Biography of the Minister

Mrs. Youssouf Hadidja Alim

Minister of Basic Education

President of Cameroon’s National Commission for UNESCO 

Current President of the Conference of Education Ministers of the African Union Member Countries (COMEDAF)

 

Mrs. Hadidja Alim Youssouf, a national of Cameroon, is holder of the State Midwife Certificate and the Diploma of Cameroon’s National School of Administration and Magistracy (E.N.A.M.). 

Initially recruited in the Garoua Regional Hospital (Cameroon), Mrs. Youssouf has always been committed to the social and family welfare. She successively headed the Garoua “Maison de la Femme”, the Garoua Center for Women's Empowerment and the Family, and the North Regional Delegation of Women's Empowerment and the Family.

Involved in politics in 1980 at the regional level, Mrs. Youssouf was elected Municipal Councilor in the Garoua Urban Council in 1987 before her election as Member of Parliament in Cameroon’s National Assembly in 2007 where she was Member of the Bureau prior to her appointment in 2009 to head the Ministry of Basic Education till today. Mrs. Youssouf is Member of the Central Committee of the Cameroon People Democratic Movement (CPDM).

In 1991, Mrs. Youssouf was bestowed honorary citizenship of the Republic of Madawaska, New-Brunswick (Canada), and in 2004 she was inducted as Knight of the Order of Valor.

            Mrs. Youssouf is the mother of seven children.
